Medical and scientific research into aging and performance in sports is a large and growing field. Not only do doctors and scientists investigate these topics, but many athletes and coaches share ideas on training and competition in the publications for the organizations that sponsor various sports. The purpose of this page is to summarize some of the articles and reports which seem to me most interesting and relevant to adult competitors. Every month or so I will review one or two articles and provide references to others. The intent of these summaries is to provide an overview of the subject and, if the reader is interested, to lead her or him to the full text of the article.
An aspiring Masters Athlete, or any sensible adult, should check with his or her doctor before beginning a program of serious competition, or any kind of vigorous exercise.
